Eligibility - VA Loan - There 5 basic criteria that are possible in order to be eligible for a VA loan. VA loans are possible for either Active duty, Peacetime or Enlisted veterans.
As long as you fall into one of the categories below you are eligible for the VA loan guaranty.
You are eligible for a VA Loan if you:
1. Are an active duty veteran, honorably discharged during WWII
2. Are an active duty veteran with 90 cosecutive days of service during a major conflict.
3. Have 180 days, consecutive service and are a Peacetime veteran or active duty personnel.
4. Are an enlisted veteran and have served 2 years, service begining after 1980
5. Are an enlisted officer and have served 2 years, service begining after 1981
VA Forms Needed
Two forms you need to have completed in order to be eligible for a VA loan are the COE - VA Form 26-1880, and Form DD214.
Active duty members Your CO will have these forms if you are an active duty military member.
Non-active members If you are non-active ( retired ) you will need your DD-214 discharge papers in order to apply for a COE
